Verner Franklin Chaffin was born in Martin, Georgia, on September 26, 1918. He received his A.B., LL.B. from the University of Georgia and his J.S.D. from the Yale Law School. Chaffin was admitted to the Georgia bar in 1942, the Alabama bar in 1953, and the US Supreme Court bar in 1965.
